Building Green Homes Project
Mission:
In a group of 2 or 3 classmates design a "green" home.
Conduct research to find materials that you could use to build your house both environmentally friendly and cost effective.
Articles like this one will help you get started.
With your group determine which materials make the most sense to use based on your budget.
Assume you have been given $750,000 to build your home.
In a written presentation from your group be sure to answer the following questions. (roughly a paragraph per category)
Project explanation (50 points / 5 points per category)
What materials you will use for your home and why. Cover the following categories...
- Heating and Cooling (5 points)

- Framing (5 points)
- Foundation (5 points)
- Roofing (5 points)
- Electrical (5 points)
- Windows (5 points)
- Lighting (5 points)
- Room design and building layout (include square footage for each room and overall square footage for the house. (5 points)
- Exterior Walls (5 points)
-Interior
building materials (counter tops, flooring, walls, ceiling, doors etc) (5
points)
Bonus (5 extra credit points)
Add a section describing what types of interior decorating you would use to keep your green theme.
Costs (15 points)
Include an excel spreadsheet explaining how much you are spending on each material.
Model (35 points)
Lastly after you have researched and written up the design for the house create both a 2-d ad 3-d model of the home.
